Oh Ez

Warning: this post is mainly for my records as a mom... you might not be interested in all of these feeding and sleeping details.
Ezra has the sweetest personality and is pretty much happy all of the time during the day (I'll get to nights later). However, he has managed to challenge us in other ways. When Nolan first started eating solids, he would open his mouth really wide and eat everything happily (except green beans). Ez has gotten us really frustrated. He never opens his mouth and even if we manage to shove a spoonful in, he tongue thrusts it right back out. He seems disgusted and gags on nearly all foods. The doctor gave us a syringe so that we could quickly squeeze some runny oatmeal into his mouth. Here is what it looks like:

We've since given up this method. Can you blame us? I think it's all sitting on his bib in that nasty blob. I actually gave up feeding him solids for a while but he kept waking up hungry at night. Some of this I have already discussed in previous posts. Well, while we were on our long trip, he decided that he would throw up all oatmeal. Over the past 2 weeks, he managed to throw up at approximately 2 a.m. after having oatmeal the night before. It was the only common factor and he wasn't sick because it was several days apart. It made me a little crazy, but we are now trying rice cereal with mixed fruit. He hates plain rice. I have a feeling this is what most babies are like... Nolan was an exception and still amazes us. One of his favorites is raw broccoli!

We all passed around a bad head cold while on our trip and it has taken about two weeks (and some antibiotics for Dad and Ezra) to get over it. Ez was having a hard time breathing at night and he was cutting a tooth. Now that he is eating better, gotten his first tooth through, and cleared up his sinus infection, he is beginning to sleep longer. I finally got 6 hours in a row for the first time in months. I felt so grateful. I love happy babies, especially when I feel well-rested.
So it feels great to be back from the cabin, San Diego, Disneyland, and St. George. We had some really great times, some really bad times, and we're glad to be home again (that's an understatement). I feel a little overwhelmed at the thought of blogging everything, so I'll be doing it in parts over the next few days. More to come!

So sorry about Ezra and his eating and sleeping. That's got to be hard. Can't wait to hear about your trip.

We had the same problem. Melody ate anything we gave her, and we still are having a problem with Max now at almost 3 years old. Just keep trying to feed him new tastes, he will start eating for you. Max's favorite when he was Ezra's age was that toddler yogurt. He loved it. I didn't know you went to Disneyland? We are going in April. Our family had the same head cold. It is going around. Glad to hear you got a good nights sleep.

Bad nights are the worst. It seems like the lack of sleep just magnifies everything. I hope the sleeping & eating improve. I'll consider myself lucky that Braxton gets mad if he doesn't get some of whatever everyone else is eating. Good luck!

I totally fee for you with the whole no eating baby. We've 2 kids like that and it's NOT fun. Alyssa never ate solid food until she was after 1 years old. Just keep trying : ).

We feel for you! Rocky was the same way. We gave up entirely on rice cereal. Who needs it? I'm sure you'll find something he likes. Jack was a good eater as a baby but now he will ONLY eat cereal. I guess if a kid needs the nutrients bad enough he'll eat the food he needs... right??
