CERT

I'm one of the newest members of CERT, the Community Emergency Response Team. It took two Saturdays from 8 to 5, but now I feel like I could actually save your life in an emergency. Well, if I'm brave enough to leave my house and find someone to watch my kids after a major disaster, then I could go save your life.
There was a lot to learn, and even though I was out of my comfort zone at times, I'm glad I took the course. The most exciting part was doing the mock disaster. There were about 13 or 14 "victims" that volunteered to get all bloodied up so that 5 of us CERTs could practice. I so wish I had pictures of us (this is what we looked like, though).

It was the real deal... not just ketchup smeared around. One guy that I helped had a pole sticking out of his stomach while his girlfriend sat screaming by his side. After accessing for shock, I tagged him and she grabbed me and wouldn't let me leave. It was quite realistic in the fact that people who are desperate aren't anxious to let help walk away. There was also a "bone" sticking out of someone's shin, and several other nasty wounds. We had to carry two victims out on a back board. The first time around was crazy. Most of us weren't prepared for how real it would feel. But the second time went well. I'm now feeling the importance of keeping more medical supplies on hand so that my family, neighbors, and community will be safer.
It's really a great program. It only costs around $45 and they give you a backpack, hard hat, gloves, mask, and eye protection that you'd need to use if something happened in the community. I hope that you'll consider getting trained, too.
There will be trainings coming up in the future. Visit the CERT website to find out more. Get in touch with Robin (her email is on the website) if you'd like to get trained.

You are awesome for taking the time to do the CERT training. It sounds like a lot of work.

You do have a lot of new fun posts up! I am so proud of you for doing the CERT training, that's awesome. I can just see you in your hard hat! :)

Jaxon's the same way with prayers. He is always volunteering. It's fun to hear your own child pray for the things he feels are important to him.

I'm so glad the Classic Skate place was so much fun. Looks like a blast!

Way to go! I'd love to do this, but I wanted to do it with my husband. His work schedule makes it almost impossible, though, so maybe I'll have to just make it my own goal.

Way to go Kenz! I'm glad to know that between Justin and his HAMM radio and you with your CERT skills we should be in good hands! ;) I wish I was that ambitious! Maybe someday....
